Shop Project 2019

The two GRT periods competed against each other in our annual Shop Project at the end of our first semester. This year’s theme was inspired by the game Quidditch from the Harry Potter series. Points were scored by grabbing balls from the loading dock and shooting (or placing) the balls into holes/ goalposts in a tower. The highest hole was Harry, which is worth 8 points, and the lower holes were Fred and George which were worth 4 points. If the robot was able to climb one foot, equivalent to earning the Golden Snitch, a 3x multiplier would be applied. Each period had 6 weeks to design, build, and test their robot. Rookies and veterans had the opportunity to collaborate and build the robot together. After a day of competition, G period ended up earning the most points and was declared the winner.

On our final day of first semester, GRT hosted a Secret Santa Gift Exchange. Each member received the name of a member from the other period to buy a gift for. Each period sat down in a circle and opened the amazing gifts they received one by one. It was a fun and cheerful way to start Winter Break!
